I finnished writing that article on April 3, 2007. So, the info is a bit outdated.

The situation is actually worse today than it was two years ago. And, it will get worse before the end of this year.

The ILSAC GF-5 rating will start to replace GF-4 but it will be difficult for shop owners to identify the truth behind the label during the GF4-GF5 transition.

GM will introduce their new (and vastly superior) dexos 1 standard as their minimum requirement for all GM gasoline powered cars.

Many sources are already excercising damage control by falsly claiming that the dexos standard compromises robustness. This is absolutely false but such misinformation is increasingly common. Such false claims appear to by designed to direct shop owners and consumers away from products of genuinely higher quality towards inferior products with higher oil company profit margins.

This is certain to cause liability problems for many shop owners who fail to educate themselves and their employees about the realities of modern lubrication systems and modern lubricants.

Oil companies are NOT a reliable source of accurate information about the products they are selling!
