Thank you for the article, may I ask a question on a problem I am having? I have an 07 Duramax which is making a muffled popping noise from the motor. This noise occurs intermittently while driving and when I come to a stop, it appears to be coming from the air cleaner area.
Only aftermarket part it has is a K&N air filter. Other possibly signs of this problem are grayish/black smoke while accelerating and low fuel mileage of approx. 12 MPG city/highway. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Aaron:
Somebody needs to put a scan tool on that one and peer into the datastream to see what's going on. Can't fix those by changing parts!

Wish I had better information.

Richard (author of Duramax article).

Darren,

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. This is a great testimonial to what AVI is all about, helping to make technicians like you be more successful. To show our appreciation for your business over the years, I am sending you a free Diagnostic 8-Ball and ASE/AVI T-shirt.

Another great article from avi. For the money, AVI is the best value for training materials I have
come across. I work mostly on heavy trucks, but have
a great interest in automobiles. AVI training has
allowed me to learn a great deal about OBD 2 and smaller diesels such as the 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4. Remember, "Before anything else, getting ready is the secret of success" Henry Ford. Thank You for helping me MAKE MORE MONEY!!!!!!!!!

Anthony,

Thank you for your comment, we really appreciate your feedback. Richard is very knowledgeable on diesels. If you click on technical, scroll down and click on older reviews, there is another article of his called "Common Rail Invasion" that is very good. We will soon add another article from Richard on the 6.4L Powerstroke.
